Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)

Actual Patient

The Brachioplasty, or arm lift, is a procedure designed to remove the excess skin and fat that can accumulate in the upper arm. It is a safe operation with a rapid recovery. This procedure is especially useful for patients who have lost a large amount of weight and for those whose arms have too much skin and fat despite working out. The stretched out skin cannot contract by itself leaving loose skin and fat hanging off the upper arm. A Brachioplasty takes away that extra skin and fat giving the arms a more desirable contour.

The operation is usually done under gentle sedation with local anesthesia. The recovery is comfortable. The procedure does leave a thin scar which extends from the axilla (armpit) to the elbow. This is well covered by the shirt sleeve but would be noticed when the arm is uncovered.

The brachioplasty is many times done in conjunction with other skin tightening operations such as tummy tucks and breast lifts. Adding a brachioplasty to another operation doesn’t increase the overall recovery time.

A similar but less common operation is the inner thigh lift done for the same reasons, and in the same manner as the brachioplasty.
