LIPOSUCTION

The doctors at Napa Solano Plastic Surgery are sensitive to the desire of patients to have more attractive body contours. Many have tried extreme diets and punishing exercise programs, but still couldn’t get stubborn pockets of body fat to vanish. It’s a common problem, which is why liposuction has become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for women and men at our practice.

More Details
Liposuction, also called lipo-sculpturing, is the most common cosmetic surgery procedure performed in the United States. Unwanted fat is removed through small inconspicuous incisions. THe doctors perform this minimally invasive body contouring using traditional liposuction and advanced lipo-sculpture techniques, including SlimLipo™ Body Sculpting Laser and Radio Frequency Body Tightening (BodyTite®).

Some procedures are performed under local anesthesia with light sedation. Others require general anesthesia. These are safe operations with a rapid and comfortable recovery.

Liposuction is not a weight reduction procedure, but rather a minimally invasive operation to eliminate areas of fat disproportion. Fat disproportion are inherited collections of extra fat cells on the body which distort the “ideal” body proportion. These include the areas popularly dubbed as “love handles,” “saddle bags,” “double chins,” “muffin tops,” and “tummy pooch.” These areas of fat disproportion do not respond to weight reduction.

Prior to surgery you will have a preoperative appointment where you will fill out a few final forms and have photos taken for before-and-after comparison. You’ll again meet with the doctor to go over the details of your procedure. You will also have a chance to ask any other questions.

What to Expect After Liposuction

After the procedure, patients may have soreness for the first 24 to 72 hours. There will be swelling of the treated areas which will peak on the second day after surgery. Typically, a compression garment is placed over the treated areas (where possible) to reduce the swelling. Bruising can occur and is usually mild. It can persist up to 7-10 days. There can be mild numbness over the treated areas, and occasionally temporary firmness.

While you can return to most normal activities within a day or two. We we ask patients to refrain from strenuous activities for approximately two to three weeks after the procedure.
